Iona Grey

I am a BA (Hons) qualified visual artist, graduating from Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen in 1996. I now live and work in Glasgow as an art tutor, soon to qualify as an Integrative Counsellor. I have over 22 years experience coordinating art groups/exhibitions and teaching a wide variety of stimulating visual art practices and techniques to individuals and community groups throughout Scotland.

6 years ago, I returned to my own art practice - large scale seascapes using acrylic, which nestle between reality and abstract. My artwork takes a critical view of the complexities and simplicities of mental health. It is a response to my inner and outer psychological landscape, pushing it to the limits in terms of scale and variety of moods and emotions to which the viewer is drawn in by. They continue to convey the wide spectrum of emotions and feelings from which I have gained insight into over many years of facilitating therapeutic art workshops to adults and children with mental health issues. Aside from the critical view of the complexities and simplicities of mental health, my paintings are also influenced by what has always surrounded me - the captivating, inspirational and ever changing light, sky and water of the west coast of Scotland, where I was brought up and return to frequently for inspiration.
